Parents please check your child's chromebook this evening. There are many student accounts that are being flagged in our monitoring system due to downloading of games, videos, changing search engines, etc. that are not school related. Students were told today, that these had better be removed from the Chromebook and Google restored as the search engines today or the Chromebook will be taken as these are school owned devices.
It has also been reported that some older students are turning their hotspots on from their phones so that others can download games and items.

The Christmas Program for grades PreK-4th is on Monday, December 7th.

Westview Families and Westview Team,
We were notified today that a student at Westview School has tested positive for COVID-19. Our thoughts are with this individual as they navigate this illness, and we wish them an easy and quick recovery.
Our goal in sending out this notification is to be as transparent as possible in providing information to our families and employees need in order to remain as healthy as possible during this uncertain time. When new confirmed cases arise, expect an email communication like this one at the end of the day. Please remember that due to privacy laws the school cannot give out specific, identifying information.
At the direction of the Health Department, all students and employees who were exposed to the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 have been individually contacted. In this case, 7 close IN-SCHOOL contacts have been identified. Contacts that are determined to have been exposed OUTSIDE of school will be notified by the health department personally.
If your child was NOT DIRECTLY EXPOSED, you would not be contacted.
For example, here are a couple scenarios:
Scenario 1: A student/teacher in your child’s class has tested positive for COVID. After Newton County, administration, and school nurse has completed contact tracing your child was not listed as a person that needs to be isolated even though they are in the same class. The reason is, your child/teacher did not sit by this student, did not interact during the day with the student/teacher for more than 15 minutes without a layer of protections or was 6 feet away.
Scenario 2: A student/teacher in your child’s class is a family member (i.e big/little sister/brother, cousin) of a student who tested positive in another class. The family member of the student who tested positive would be considered a secondary contact and no isolation is required for your child as they did not have direct contact with the student who is positive.
As a reminder, we would like to share the following information in regards to what steps we can all take to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:
-Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and report any to your student’s doctor and school.
-If an employee or student has been directly exposed to someone positive for COVID-19, please report that to your school.
-When social distancing is not possible, wear a mask or face covering unless a medical condition does not allow for it.
-Wash your hands and sanitize frequently.
-Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for updates about COVID-19.
Thank you for helping us keep each other and the school year safe!

Starting Monday, November 23rd we will begin our weeklong Thanksgiving Break!
On Monday, November 30th, Monday, December 7th, and Monday, December 14th students will be attending school VIRTUALLY. Your child's teachers sent out information how these days will work earlier in the year but if you have any questions feel free to email or call your child's teacher.
Students will have IN PERSON instruction as planned the other days of the week.
The elementary Christmas Program will still be held on Monday, December 14th at 6 PM.
By making these Monday's VIRTUAL days it will allow teachers, students, and parents to work out kinks so that if we do have to close again for an extended period, students will be able to continue their education without a hiccup.

Parents- We've had a large number of students forgetting to charge Chromebooks at night. This is becoming a problem for teachers as they plan lessons and activities for students to complete during the day, with only 1-2 extra chargers. Please secure a location in your home where your child knows to charge their computer each night. Our young elementary students especially need your help with this, and we encourage you to make it a nightly routine. THANK YOU for your help!

I have been asked about backpacks so I want to address the following in this manner, we are the ONLY SCHOOL that has NO Positive student COVID-19 cases, so we have been able to hold school in person. After, visiting with health professionals they think it could be partly because students are bringing only necessary items. That being said, if your child has necessary items that need to come back & forth, please send it in a plastic sack that can be thrown away. We have problem solved with students on how to transport folders/Chromebook cases. Water bottles can be left here during the week and sent home on Friday's to assist in less items to carry. Jackets should be worn or tied around waists. If you have questions, please feel free to call the office at 417-776-2425.

We will be holding our normal Halloween Parade and Class Parties on OCT. 30th @ 2:00 PM this year BUT WITH A TWIST.... We will have designated areas outside for classes to hold their party. Your child will parade to their spot. Please keep in mind this is an outdoor event so it may be cold. We wanted to share this information so that you could keep that in mind when choosing a costume.
Halloween/Happening Costume Rules
In choosing your child’s costume for this event you must keep the following in mind:
1. No Bloody/guts
2. No guns/swords/knives/weapons
3. No scary masks (We must remember the age levels we have in the building)
4. MUST FOLLOW THE SCHOOL DRESS CODE. NO SHORT SHORTS, STRAPLESS SHIRTS, Etc.
4. Your child will have to change into this costume WITHOUT help, so it will need to be easy for them to dress themselves.
If your child’s costume does not comply with the items listed above they will not be allowed to wear it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at 417-776-2425
Parents and grandparents are invited to attend but we ask that it is limited to these adults only. The people in attendance must also wear a facemask or shield. Teachers will be sending home information on party items at a later date.

The USDA recently announced an extension of a waiver to extend the Summer Food Service Program through December 31, 2020, or until funds no longer exist. The thought behind this is that COVID-19 is still affecting many families in our communities and this is one way that we can continue to support those affected by this pandemic.
Westview has elected to extend this waiver, therefore for the period mentioned above EVERY students enrolled at Westview will be receiving FREE BREAKFAST and LUNCH beginning September 1st and continues until December 31st OR until funds run out (WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED AS TO WHEN CHARGES WILL RESUME). Mrs. Pam is working on crediting accounts for any charges that occurred beginning Sept. 1st. Any charges from August 24th-31st are still owed.
**If your child wants an extra( A la carte) and milks are NOT included in the free items so you will receive a bill for these items.
During this time we ask that you fill out food service applications if you have not already done so. The reason for this is that when funds run out or the date is reached we will return to the National School Lunch Program. Anyone who does not have a lunch application on file will be changed to Full Pay in our system at the end of September, and will be charged accordingly when this program ends. If you have not filled out an application and turned it in, please do so by September 15, 2020. This would also be a great time to pay down any lunch balances your student may have accrued over the last week. Paying down these balances while you are not being charged will allow your student to start fresh when lunch charges resume.

Our Character Word for September is: RESPONSIBILITY
Every month teachers choose students who display the month's character word as "Students of the Month." Their picture is taken for the paper, they earn a pizza lunch party and get a certificate of recognition.
Let's Go Westview Eagles! We're glad you're back!

5th Grade Band Parents:
Due to our current restrictions, we have decided to do a Zoom meeting tomorrow night for our Beginning Band parent meeting at 5:00pm. We will finalize details about instruments, costs, fundraising and any other information that pertains to 5th Grade Beginning Band. I will give general information and also answer any questions you may have.
Zoom links were sent to parent emails, and it should be a brief meeting. I am very excited to have your student in Band this year!
-Ms. DeArmond

Good Morning Parents! Everyone is doing a great job dropping their children off but we need your assistance in speeding the process up. Please have your child be ready to get out of the car as soon as you pull up so we can help them out and go on to the next car. Also, if you want to watch your child walk into the building we ask that you park because sitting and waiting is slowing the drop off line. We will make sure your child gets in the door safely. We appreciate your cooperation!

We had a GREAT 1st week back! Thank you for being patient as we work through the usually back to school routine tweaks. The individual sneeze guards and table guards have now arrived, so the students will be able to move around and work on projects! This is just a reminder that we have NO SCHOOL on Mondays. We will see everyone back on Tuesday at 7:40am!

CORRECTION- only staff and students will be allowed in the building at this time. Sorry for the confusion. Again, ONLY STAFF and STUDENTS will be allowed in the building.

We are so excited to see everyone tomorrow! Reminder the doors open at 7:40 and the tardy bell rings at 7:50. All students have the option of eating a FREE breakfast each morning if they arrive at school before 7:50. School will dismiss at 3:27.
For safety at this time, only parent, students, and staff will be allowed in the building. We encourage you to watch our Facebook, App, and website for important information.

School starts 1 week from today! We can't wait to see you!
We will be having a drive thru open house on Monday, August 24th from 5-6 pm . There is a map attached below of where your child's classroom teacher will be located on the grounds. Please follow the traffic arrows so there is not a traffic jam. Parents and students will remain in their cars. Teachers will hand out an information sheet and say hello. This will be a quick meet your teacher time.
Elementary students can give their teacher classroom supplies at open house. Middle school teacher's have asked middle school students to bring their supplies the first day of class on Aug. 25th.
If anyone would like to drop your child's school supplies off this week, you may do so through Thursday from 8:30 -12:30.
I apologize that you will have to turn your phone to see the picture.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of the Corona virus, please contact your child's teacher and we will require alternate ways of completing work. Stay safe.

Students- www.readingeggs.com is up and running for all students grades Prek-5th. Monday, Prek students will find a letter in their packets with login information. Parents and Students: If you have had issues with your Readingeggs account, we are aware and working to fix this issue. Your student can still work on math, but the reading side is not accessible right now. We will let you know when the issue has been fixed. Thanks for encouraging your student to continue to read during this time!!
