Westview C-6 Electronic Personal Communication Devices Policy
2025-2026
In relation to Senate Bill 68, beginning the 25-26 school year, all students are prohibited from using or displaying electronic personal communication devices from the beginning of the school day until the end of the school day, including, but not limited to, instructional time, meal times, breaks, time between classes, and study halls. This policy extends to field trips and school events that are off the school campus during and/or after school hours. Electronic personal communication devices are defined as a portable device used to initiate, receive, store, or view communication, information, images, or data electronically. Such policy is designed to promote students’ educational interests and ensure a safe, effective school environment for all students and staff.
Devices brought onto the school campus must be turned off and stored with the classroom teacher during the school day. Unauthorized use will result in the following disciplinarian actions:
The first offense will result in confiscation of the device and a written warning with the device returned at the end of the school day.
The second offense will result in confiscation of the device, lunch detention, and required parent/guardian device pick up in the school office.
The third offense will result in confiscation, one day of in-school suspension, and required parent/guardian device pick up in the school office.
The fourth, and subsequent offenses, will result in confiscation, student out-of-school suspension, and required parent/guardian device pick up in the school office.
Exemptions will be allowed for students who need devices due to specific educational or health needs specified in individualized education plans or 504 plans under federal law. Exemptions may also be made in the event of an emergency.
The school encourages parents to contact the school office directly for any messages or changes to student’s routine.
