Good Afternoon Westview Families! I hope everyone is staying safe and warm. We will be out of school tomorrow, Thursday, February 11th due to weather. We will be using one of our Virtual Learning Day. (Like we did the Monday’s between Thanksgiving and Christmas.) Each of your child’s teachers will be making contact today, so be watching for information. ALL Students know their log ins and how to get to their teacher's site. ATTENDANCE WILL BE TAKEN tomorrow and all work will need to be completed according to the teacher's guidelines in order for the child to be counted in attendance. If you are one of the families that indicated previously that you did not have internet there are assignments that have been downloaded to your child’s Chromebook that they do not need the internet to complete. Students must still make contact with their teacher by phone or text and complete the assignments given by the teacher. All work will be due the day we return. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher via email, google message, or on their google voice phone number they provided at the beginning of the year (It can also be found on www.wc6.org - staff link. You can also find the link to your child's teacher's classroom at this page as well.) If the weather does not improve we will be utilizing this option on Friday as well. Due to the possibility of more winter weather over the weekend into Monday we will not make up Tuesday and Wednesday missed this week until Monday, February 22nd and March 8th.

Good Evening, I just wanted to let everyone know I have been monitoring the weather situation for the next few days. We have the potential for more winter weather to hit our area after 9 PM this evening. My hope is the weather maps are wrong and we can be back in school tomorrow but I may not know until in the morning. I try my best to let you know the night before but as you all know our weather is unpredictable. If we have to miss tomorrow, we will have a traditional "snow" day but if we have to miss more days we will be teaching virtually. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up if they need to make possible back up plans for the next few days. My number one priority in these situations is the safety of our staff and students.

Westview Families and Westview Team, we were notified today that a student at Westview School has tested positive for COVID-19. Our thoughts are with this individual as they navigate this illness, and we wish them an easy and quick recovery. Our goal in sending out this notification is to be as transparent as possible in providing information to our families and employees need in order to remain as healthy as possible during this uncertain time. When new confirmed cases arise, expect an email communication like this one at the end of the day. Please remember that due to privacy laws the school cannot give out specific, identifying information. At the direction of the Health Department, all students and employees who were exposed to the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 have been individually contacted. In this case, 6 close IN-SCHOOL contacts have been identified. Contacts that are determined to have been exposed OUTSIDE of school will be notified by the health department personally. If your child was NOT DIRECTLY EXPOSED, you would not be contacted. For example, here are a couple scenarios: Scenario 1: A student/teacher in your child’s class has tested positive for COVID. After Newton County, administration, and school nurse has completed contact tracing your child was not listed as a person that needs to be isolated even though they are in the same class. The reason is, your child/teacher did not sit by this student, did not interact during the day with the student/teacher for more than 15 minutes without a layer of protections or was 6 feet away. Scenario 2: A student/teacher in your child’s class is a family member (i.e big/little sister/brother, cousin) of a student who tested positive in another class. The family member of the student who tested positive would be considered a secondary contact and no isolation is required for your child as they did not have direct contact with the student who is positive. As a reminder, we would like to share the following information in regards to what steps we can all take to help reduce the spread of COVID-19: -Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and report any to your student’s doctor and school. -If an employee or student has been directly exposed to someone positive for COVID-19, please report that to your school. -When social distancing is not possible, wear a mask or face covering unless a medical condition does not allow for it. -Wash your hands and sanitize frequently. -Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website for updates about COVID-19. Thank you for helping us keep each other and the school year safe!
